Bupa visit Sarnelli House
To celebrate 60 years in business, bupa recruited 60 volunteers from their worldwide business group, who spent 6 weeks volunteering at Sarnelli House in Nong Khai. Sarnelli is home to 200 children who are either HIV+, or have been orphaned by HIV.
The volunteers also fundraised for Sarnelli (all their travel and accommodation costs were paid by Bupa). Daily online diaries and a special edition of bupa's in-house bupa TV engaged the entire workforce in the effort. bupa's vision is "Taking care of the lives in our hands". That's exactly what the volunteers did: they decorated all the orphanage buildings, built 4 basketball courts and 5 playgrounds, created a landscaped garden, and installed over 20 bathrooms and a new kitchen. The impact on the volunteers is best described in their own words.
'I want to avoid the cliche of saying 'it was life changing' but it truly was'
'You're coming over here to give, yet you receive so much from these kids. I think it will stay with me for a long time.'
'I think a company of our size should be doing things like this. You know, the power we have to help people, we need to make full use of it'.
