Hunger Busters for Schools
What is the purpose of the campaign?
The Thai border town of Mae Sot is home to thousands of Burmese refugees, about one third of them children. Children flee Burma because their lives are in danger. Many have had parents shot or killed by landmines. Families send them to Thailand in the hope of safety and education, as a passport to a better life. The result is that while the children are safe in boarding houses or refugee camps, they have little to eat.
Our campaign is to sponsor lunches at Hsa Mu Htaw School for £18 a month. We need to find 20 sponsors to make sure the whole school are fed adequately!
How will the children benefit
Almost all the children at Hsa Mu Htaw School are in Thailand illegally and are at risk of arrest deportation to Burma. Hsa Mu Htaw offers them a safe haven where they can come to learn. There are 250 children at the school, 40 of which are orphans and live in a nearby boarding house.
Many of these children are suffering from serious malnutrition. The Thai Children's Trust pledges, with your help, to feed them.
What does it cost?
One school lunch costs 20p. A single cash donation is always welcome, but children need to eat every day for years to come. If your school can make a regular payment of £18 per month, we can give the schools a dependable food budget, so these children can begin to thrive.
Where possible we will supplement with self-help schemes like mushroom sheds for £400 and catfish tanks for £88, which can deliver much-needed protein very efficiently
What does TCT provide?
Your school will receive a quarterly update about Hsa Mu Htaw School, and how the lunches you have sponsored have made an impact on the students. We will be able to provide your school with a speaker to highlight the issues that the Burmese migrant children are facing. We will also give you a fundraising pack and some ‘Hunger Buster' Badges to make it easy for your school to fundraise!
